Andrew Strauss Believes Australia have lost their aura

There are some things in life you just dont do, and prodding a sleeping bear with a stick is one of them. Strauss decided to go on air and indicate that Australia arent as good as they were…. I am glad my money is on Australia for the series as if England win it – the scores will remain 1-0

Strauss might be quite correct in his assessment but some things are better left unsaid

On 30th July 2009, the Brit Oval, home of Surrey Cricket will launch the first ever desktop cricket specific chat application. The app also provides the latest news and content from the cricket world and beyond, straight to users’ desktops.

The app, called Wicket Widget, is the only cricket desktop app with a community chat function whereby users can chat with fellow cricket fans via the interface. Users can invite friends, see when they’re online, and bowl cricket balls from their desktops to their friends – another global first.

Conceptualised and developed by The BIO Agency, Wicket Widget also aggregates news content from online cricket sources including BBC Sport, the ECB and Cricinfo. Video content is pulled in from broadcast sites such as YouTube.   

 In addition, users can follow up-to-the-minute live scores as matches are being played, from county matches to the Ashes. They can also define their weather location and colour of Wicket Widget.

 Wicket Widget aims to bring both hardcore fans and the next generation of cricket fans closer to the game. Traditional offline launch tactics are being employed alongside online seeding and awareness through social networking micro targeting via facebook and twitter.

 With the Brit Oval and Surrey Cricket’s overall marketing strategy focusing on digital communications, Wicket Widget is hoping to achieve similar success that the new brand site has witnessed in the past couple of months since launch. Visitor loyalty, stickiness of site, and ecommerce performance has significantly improved year on year, indicating a positive consumer behavioural shift online for the Brit Oval and Surrey Cricket.
