David vs Goliath – The David Warner story

Most Australians had never heard of him, the South Africans could only have been chuckling yet the modern day fairy tale was witnessed on Sunday when David Warner came out to open the Australian innings.

Those who saw it live witnessed something special, something similar to the 438 game that SA won against Australia a few seasons back, something that will go down in the history books as the best Twenty20 debut ever made. The man had never played a first class game in his life yet he was opening for his country against one of the greatest cricketing nations. Many papers would have had a go at this curious decision made by the selectors.

Warner entered the match as the first man in 132 years to debut for Australia in any format without a first-class appearance to his name.

This was the debut of dreams and I am glad I got to see it

SA ODI squad for Australia

The One day squad has been announced with a few new additions. It is fantastic to see van Jaarsveld in the side he is an incredible talent and has a bright future ahead of him as does Wayne Parnell. Tsotsobe has been over for the tests and gets to stay for the ODI’s as well.

South African squad: Graeme Smith (Nashua Cape Cobras, capt), Johan Botha (Chevrolet Warriors, vice-capt), Hashim Amla (Nashua Dolphins), Mark Boucher (Chevrolet Warriors), AB de Villiers (Nashua Titans), JP Duminy (Nashua Cape Cobras), Herschelle Gibbs (Nashua Cape Cobras), Jacques Kallis (Chevrolet Warriors), Albie Morkel (Nashua Titans), Morne Morkel (Nashua Titans), Makhaya Ntini (Chevrolet Warriors), Wayne Parnell (Chevrolet Warriors), Dale Steyn (Nashua Titans), Lonwabo Tsotsobe (Chevrolet Warriors), Vaughn van Jaarsveld (bizhub Highveld Lions).

SA vs Aus 1st Test Final day preview

187 runs to win, 7 wickets left – could there be a better close to the 1st test? Chris Adams reckons Australia are in the driving seats deciding they are 60/40 favourites!!!

The target of 414 if reached will eclipse the 387 India reached set by England a few days ago. It will be the second highest successful run chase in the 4th innings with only West Indies chasing down a higher total.

Strangely enough this was against Australia – it seems that Australia has many of these records set against them , with South Africa successfully chasing down the 434 set by Australia in the one day arena.

With just a few hours to go, I cant wait to see South Africa successfully chase down a mammoth total – a total that is at least 100 runs too high
