India were dismissed for 76 in the shortest ever innings on the subcontinent. It took just 20 overs to complete the rot with Steyn picking up 5/23. Ntini grabbed 3/18 and Morkel claimed 2 wickets. In under 15 overs SA were in the lead. Currently they are 147 runs in the lead with 4 wickets down. Things are not going India’s way and it will take a miracle for them to come back in this match.
South Africa posted their higest ever score in India, posting 540 in the first innings. India have shown there is plenty to play for as India have fought back and are currently 82 without loss. Their run rate has been impressive and is currently just under 4 to the over.
Its game on in a few hours time and plenty to play for!
Highlights from the first days play
Hayden called Harbhajan Singh an obnoxious weed recently – after the comments made below it is not surprising to see why!! Harbhajan honestly believes after India got carroted around the park on the first day that on the second day there will be 6 wickets for the picking even with South Africa’s impressive lineup.
“I want to invite the fans to come and watch us bat. It will be in the first session of the day,” Harbhajan said.
“If we take two early wickets we’ll dismiss them quickly. It will take only two good balls.
“If we bowl them out for under 375 we’ll have a good chance of winning the Test. The wicket will be good for batting until the third day and South Africa will struggle against our spinners in their second innings.
“We made a mistake by allowing them to dominate in the first session (on Wednesday). We conceded too many boundaries and had to fight back to take four wickets in the next two sessions.” (see more here)
Quite correct Mr Singh it will be a tough battle out there tomorrow and even tougher when SA bowl
Edited to add thsagt SA scored 100 runs in 23 overs for the loss of just one wicket. At 404/5 South Africa have almost ensured that this test will only have two possible outcomes – a draw or a win for SA. Now that SA have the ability to pick up 20 wickets the latter is looking more likely
